Betta falx, commonly known as the red skirt Betta, is a relatively new species of Betta from Sumatra, Indonesia. Despite their name, these bettas have a blue or green skirt to their tail and anal fins. They are a very easy wild betta to keep; a pH just below neutral is sufficient to breed them, and they should do just fine even in plain Toronto tap water for day-to-day keeping. Tannins from wood or leaf litter are still greatly appreciated. These bettas are paternal mouthbrooders, meaning the male broods the eggs and young in his mouth until they are ready to be released. This would be one of the better options for a community tank wild betta, pairing well with small schooling fishes such as many rasboras, tetras, lampeye killis, etc.
